About Us
Maumee Valley Dental Assisting School (MVDAS) was designed to offer students a unique opportunity to gain the education and skills to become a dental assistant in a 10-week, condensed curriculum. Dental assistants are in very high demand. By offering a fast-track, hands-on program with Saturday classes, MVDAS helps meet that demand while also helping students who may otherwise not have the opportunity to advance their careers.
Maumee Valley Dental Assisting School is a state-approved school and is based on the Assist to Succeed dental assisting curriculum, a nationally proven program that provides a hands-on approach to learning at a lower cost than traditional dental assisting programs in the area. Half of the course period is classroom work and the other half is clinical experience. Students are taught in an actual practicing, state-of-the-art dental office and learn from dental professionals who practice and teach the most current methods of dentistry.

About the Instructor

Brenda Strauss has been in the dental industry since 1996 and continues to show her passion and enthusiasm for the industry through teaching. A Certified Dental Assistant herself, Brenda attended Stautzenberger College and Toledo Dental Academy for dental assisting. She continued her education to become an EFDA (Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary) at Owens Community College and received her teaching license from the University of Toledo. She loves shaping our dental assisting students' minds and fueling their passion for dentistry.

About the Director

Dr. Michael Carpenter has been practicing dentistry since 1996 after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Ohio State College of Dentistry. In 1998, he purchased a small Napoleon practice and has since developed it to include multiple dentists and dental specialists and more than 80 employees serving over 13,000 patients throughout Northwest Ohio. He continuously develops his knowledge and skills through world-renowned training courses and attends over 100 hours of continuing education a year (five times the state requirement). This training gives him the ability to offer his patients advanced dental solutions such as cosmetic dentistry, oral and IV sedation and neuromuscular dentistry.

Dr. Carpenter started Maumee Valley Dental Assisting school out of his passion for excellent dental care, his commitment to always strive to be his personal best, and his love to help others do the same. His purpose is to develop a workforce of dental assistants equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to not only provide exceptional patient care, but to enhance their overall potential in life through growth and new opportunities.
